Peritoneal for Culture & Sensitivity
Rs.2,000.00
SKU TEST-0113
Overview:
The Peritoneal Fluid for Culture & Sensitivity test involves collecting a sample of fluid from the peritoneal cavity (the area surrounding the abdominal organs) and testing it for microorganisms. This test helps identify infections in the abdominal cavity, such as peritonitis, and determines which antibiotics or antifungal treatments will be effective in treating the infection.
What it detects:
This test detects the presence of bacteria, fungi, or other microorganisms in the peritoneal fluid. It also includes testing the sensitivity of these microorganisms to different antibiotics or antifungal agents. The results help guide appropriate treatment for infections like spontaneous bacterial peritonitis (SBP) or infections due to perforations in the intestines or other abdominal organs.
Who should get it:
This test is recommended for individuals who show symptoms of an abdominal infection, such as fever, abdominal pain, nausea, or vomiting, particularly in patients with known liver disease (e.g., cirrhosis), recent abdominal surgery, or known gastrointestinal conditions. It is also used for patients with ascites (fluid buildup in the abdomen) to check for infection.
Sample required:
A sample of peritoneal fluid is required, which is typically obtained through a procedure called paracentesis (a needle is inserted into the abdomen to remove fluid).
Fasting requirements:
Fasting may be required prior to the procedure, depending on medical instructions provided for paracentesis.
Processing time:
Results available in 5 days.
