Overview:
The Glucose Tolerance Test (GTT) is a diagnostic procedure used to assess how the body processes glucose. It helps to diagnose conditions such as diabetes, prediabetes, and gestational diabetes. During the test, a person consumes a glucose solution, and blood sugar levels are measured at different intervals over a few hours.

What it detects:
The GTT detects how the body responds to glucose. It helps identify impaired glucose tolerance (prediabetes), diabetes, or gestational diabetes based on the body's ability to clear glucose from the bloodstream over time.

Who should get it:
Individuals who are at risk for diabetes, such as those who are overweight, have a family history of diabetes, or are experiencing symptoms like excessive thirst, frequent urination, or unexplained weight loss, may need this test. It is also used to diagnose gestational diabetes in pregnant women.

Sample required:
A blood sample is required, with multiple samples taken after consuming a glucose drink, typically over a 2–3 hour period.

Fasting requirements:
Fasting is required before the test, usually for 8-12 hours.
