Overview:
The Fasting Blood Sugar (FBS) test measures the level of glucose (sugar) in the blood after a person has fasted for at least 8 hours. It is commonly used to assess the body's ability to regulate blood sugar and to diagnose or monitor diabetes and prediabetes.

What it detects:
It detects the level of glucose in the blood after fasting. Elevated fasting blood glucose levels can indicate prediabetes, diabetes, or other conditions related to glucose metabolism.

Who should get it:
Individuals with symptoms of high blood sugar (such as increased thirst, frequent urination, and unexplained weight loss) or those at risk for diabetes, including those with a family history of diabetes, should get this test.
