eGFR

Overview:
The eGFR test is used to assess kidney function by estimating how well the kidneys are filtering blood. It uses a blood creatinine level, age, gender, and race to calculate the rate at which the kidneys are filtering waste from the blood. An eGFR value helps diagnose kidney disease and monitor its progression.

What it detects:
It detects the glomerular filtration rate (GFR), which is an important indicator of kidney health. A lower eGFR suggests impaired kidney function, which could indicate chronic kidney disease or other kidney problems.

Who should get it:
Individuals at risk for kidney disease, such as those with diabetes, high blood pressure, or a family history of kidney disease, may need this test. It is also used for individuals with symptoms of kidney dysfunction, like swelling, fatigue, or changes in urine output.

A blood sample is required for this test.

Fasting requirements:
