Overview:
Cardiac enzymes (SGOT, CPK, LDH) are used to measure the levels of specific enzymes in the blood that can indicate damage to the heart muscle. These enzymes are released into the bloodstream when the heart is injured, often in the case of a heart attack or other heart conditions.

What it detects:

SGOT (Serum Glutamic-Oxaloacetic Transaminase): Elevated levels may indicate liver or heart damage.

CPK (Creatine Phosphokinase): This enzyme is involved in muscle energy production, and its levels can rise with heart muscle damage (e.g., myocardial infarction).

LDH (Lactate Dehydrogenase): Elevated levels can be a sign of tissue damage, including heart muscle damage.

Who should get it:
Individuals experiencing symptoms of a heart attack, such as chest pain, shortness of breath, or pain radiating to the arm, or those at risk for heart disease, may need this test.
