ICT Tuberculosis

Overview:
The ICT Tuberculosis test is a rapid diagnostic test used to detect the presence of antibodies or antigens specific to Mycobacterium tuberculosis, the bacterium that causes tuberculosis (TB). This test uses Immunochromatographic Technology (ICT) to quickly provide results and is typically used as an initial screening tool for TB, especially in areas with high prevalence of the disease.

What it detects:
This test detects specific biomarkers, such as antigens or antibodies, produced in response to a TB infection. It is useful for diagnosing both active and latent TB. A positive result suggests that the individual has been exposed to Mycobacterium tuberculosis, but further tests (e.g., sputum smear, culture, or chest X-ray) are needed for a definitive diagnosis.

Who should get it:
Individuals with symptoms of tuberculosis, such as persistent cough, weight loss, night sweats, fever, or fatigue, especially those who have had close contact with someone diagnosed with TB or have a history of exposure to TB, should consider this test. It is also recommended for individuals who are at high risk of TB, including those with weakened immune systems (e.g., HIV-positive individuals).
